Need a baby capsule for a few months, a seat for visiting grandchildren, or a special seat after a cast? Kidsafe WA hires child car seats from West Leederville, and every hire includes professional installation. Prices, what to bring, and how to book.
A baby capsule fits your baby for months, not years. Grandparents need a seat for the school holidays, not forever. A child in a leg cast can't fit the seat they had last week. Buying a new seat for each of these is expensive, and a second-hand one is a gamble: you don't know if it has been in a crash.
Kidsafe WA hires child car seats instead, and the hire price includes having a trained fitter install it in your car.
What it is
Kidsafe WA is the Western Australian branch of Kidsafe, the Child Accident Prevention Foundation of Australia. Its Child Car Restraint Hire service lends seats for short or long periods from its centre at 140 Railway Parade, West Leederville. You book an appointment, come in with your car, and leave with the seat fitted. A refundable deposit applies to every hired seat.
What you can hire, and what it costs
These are Kidsafe WA's listed prices on 28 October 2026. Installation is included.
Baby capsules (0 to 12 months or 0 to 6 months). Deposit $60. One month $90, three months $150, six months $180, nine months $260, twelve months $320. Extra months $30 each.
Baby capsule base only. Deposit $30. One month $40, three months $60, six months $80. Extra months $20 each.
Convertible and harnessed car seats (12 months to 8 years). Deposit $60. One week $60, two weeks $70, three weeks $80, one month $90, two months $120, three months $150. Extra months $30 each.
Specialty seats, kept for children with extra needs such as casts or braces. Deposit $80. One week $90, two weeks $100, three weeks $110, one month $120, two months $150, three months $180, six months $220. Extra months $30 each.
Boosters (4 to 8 years). Deposit $40. One week $50, two weeks $60, three weeks $70, one month $80, two months $100, three months $120. Extra months $20 each.

How to book, step by step
- Open the hire page and fill in the Child Car Restraint Hire Booking Request Form, or call Kidsafe WA on (08) 6244 4880.
- Have these ready: the date you want to collect and have it installed, morning or afternoon, the date you'll return it, how many seats, and each child's age.
- Say whether you're hiring a capsule for a newborn, and list any car seats already in the car.
- Add your car's make, model, year and registration, so the fitter knows what they're working with.
- Kidsafe WA contacts you about availability and confirms your appointment. Appointments are required.
- Bring the car to West Leederville at your time. The centre is open Monday to Friday 9am to 4.30pm, and every second Saturday 9am to 12pm.
Already have a seat?
Kidsafe WA also checks and fits seats you own. A 30-minute Child Car Restraint Service appointment is $50 per seat: they install it, check and adjust it, show you how to use it every trip, or turn it from rearward to forward facing.
