Kidsafe WA's Safety Demonstration House: see a child-safe home before you fix your own
Kidsafe WA runs a real house in West Leederville fitted out to show what keeps young children safe. Drop in on a weekday for a gold coin, join a guided tour, or book the Baby Safety Seminar before your baby arrives. There's an online version too.

Reading a list of hazards is one thing. Standing in a kitchen and seeing where the kettle cord hangs, how a cupboard lock clicks shut, and how low a power point really sits is another. You notice things in your own house the same afternoon.
Kidsafe WA has a house for exactly that. The Safety Demonstration House in West Leederville is set up like an ordinary family home, with the safety features already fitted, so you can walk through it and see what works.

What it is
Kidsafe WA is the Western Australian branch of Kidsafe, the Child Accident Prevention Foundation of Australia. Its house shows, room by room, where young children get hurt at home and how to stop it, using photo displays and real household items with child safety features on them.
Three ways to use it
1. Drop in on a weekday. The house is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm. You don't need to book a self-guided visit: pick up a tour booklet inside the house and walk through at your own pace. It costs a gold coin donation.
2. Join a guided tour. A guided tour runs for about an hour. It covers the most common ways children are hurt in WA (drowning, transport, falls, burns and poisoning) and what prevents each one. Public guided tours run every second month; the dates listed on 28 October 2026 were 17 February, 7 April, 16 June, 11 August, 13 October and 1 December 2027. Parent groups, playgroups and other groups of up to 30 can book a tour on a day and time that suits them. Bookings are essential, and it is a gold coin donation per adult.
3. Book the Baby Safety Seminar. If you're expecting, this is the one. It runs on Saturday mornings every second month, from 10.30am for about an hour, and the next session listed is 14 November 2026. It covers:
- how and where young children get hurt
- home safety tips to do before the baby comes
- a demonstration of fitting a child car seat
- safe sleeping
- looking after your own mental health before and after the birth
- a tour of the Safety Demonstration House
Who it is for
Parents, grandparents and carers of young children anywhere in WA, and anyone expecting a baby. Groups are welcome too: mothers' groups, playgroups, child care staff, schools.
Can't get to West Leederville?
Kidsafe WA also has an Online Safety Demonstration House. Click a room and read what to look for: the backyard, bathroom, bedroom, driveway, garage, kitchen, laundry, living area and garden shed. It's free and takes ten minutes. It's a good way to walk through your own home with a fresh eye, one room at a time.

While you're there
